Heli-skiing with Valdez Heli-Ski Guides is unlike skiing anywhere in the world. Our ski runs average 3,500 with our longest runs, like our backyard test-piece Mount Dimond, topping 6,200. Low client to guide ratios (4:1) provide you with specialized attention allowing us to guide you down adventurous peaks bearing long couloirs and broad faces only found in the Chugach.
Valdez Heli-Ski Guides caters to advanced and expert skiers and riders. If you enjoy a little excitement in your ski runs and can safely ski in control on the steep runs at most ski areas than you'll love VHSG!
To those new to big mountain skiing, our Terrain Progression Program is designed to teach you the requisite skills such as sluff management--to ski the most exciting terrain in the world. For the Chugach veteran, our experienced guides will assist you in pushing your limits safely down the most memorable runs of your lifetime. All guests will leave VHSG having developed better big mountain skills that will give you more comfort and security on both your home ski hill and the biggest peaks around the world.
VHSG operates out of the historic Tsaina Lodge heli pad on Thompson Pass, 35 miles from Valdez, Alaska. VHSG was founded at the Tsaina Lodge because weather conditions are more reliable than anywhere else in the Chugach Mountains. Often we can fly in weather windows unavailable to those located further from Thompson Pass. In fact, some of our best terrain is less than a 2 minute flight from the Tsaina with the option of skiing directly back to the helipad--something no other heli-ski operator in the Valdez area can offer. This truly is the epi-center of heli-skiing in North America.
Demonstrated by our excellent record, safety is Valdez Heli-Ski Guides' top priority. Our experienced team of avalanche forecasters and guides has worked for years to develop a safety program designed to minimize the risks of heli-skiing in the Chugach Mountains. Our guides and pilots are some of the most experienced in their field.
VHSG guests stay at The Valdez Harbor Inn. Majestically located on the water's edge, The Harbor Inn offers modern, comfortable lodging with Alaska-style log architecture. All rooms have excellent scenic views of the Chugach Mountains and/or Prince William Sound. At the end of the ski day, join us in the Alaska Bistro Restaurant and Lounge adjacent to the Harbor Inn. Enjoy snacks and a burger from this friendly cocktail lounge's bar menu. Or spend a relaxing evening in the bistro, Valdez's finest restaurant, enjoying its excellent Alaskan seafood and extensive wine collection.
